SAFETY AND HANDLING

“Does APF require special handling? Will it spoil?”

No, APF does not require special handling and is very stable under normal conditions. We do recommend, however, that it not be exposed to extremely high temperatures.

“How long is the shelf life of APF?”

Again, APF is very stable and lasts a very long time, even after opening. As part of our commitment to quality control, each bottle is marked with a batch number and expiration date.

“Is APF safe to use in pregnant mares?”

Absolutely. In fact, breeding stock in particular benefit from the nutritional support of APF. Pregnancy is a critical time for both the mare and foal, requiring additional energy, healthy metabolic function, and a robust immune system. All benefits provided by APF.

“Is APF safe for long-term use?”

Yes. Not only is it safe for long-term use, but it was specifically designed to be fed throughout a horse's life.  It is only when feed daily that your horse benefits the most. APF is not a drug or “quick-fix”. It works best when fed regularly to prevent problems.

“Can APF be combined with other supplements?”

Yes, it is very safe to combine APF with other nutritional supplements. APF does not replace vitamins and minerals. Its nutritional profile is uniquely different as it is based on phyto-nutrients. The phyto-nutrients in APF, through supporting metabolic function, actually enhance the action of other supplements.

It is also safe to use APF in conjunction with most medicines and prescriptions. For example, APF has been found to be highly effective in mitigating the side effects of pergolide. However, it is strongly recommended that you discuss the addition of APF with your treating veterinarian. APF should not be given when prescription immuno-stimulants are being used.

“Will my horse like the taste of APF?”

Yes! APF is made up of herbs, which horses find delicious. Virtually all horses respond with enthusiasm to the addition of APF to their diet, often licking up the last drops from their buckets. If you are at all concerned that your horse may not get his recommended dose, it is easy to dribble the small amount of liquid into his mouth, or add it to a cookie.

SmartPak Equine has made APF available on organic horse cookies in pre-measured custom doses for your convenience. Another good choice is Skode's Horse Treats, which are very low in sugars (non-structural carbohydrates).
