When you compete at the FEI NAJYRC (North American Junior & Young Rider Championships), and do it riding two horses into the medals for a gold medal in eventing and a silver medal for dressage, you must be doing something right.
A lot of somethings!
David Ziegler – the young Canadian who pulled off this historic feat – has been doing a lot of somethings right for a long while. The 21-year-old has been riding since childhood on his family’s cattle ranch in Alberta, Canada, as well as in Pony Club. By high school he was competing at the Preliminary level with his now dressage horse, Peninsula Top Man (Topper), but realized early on that Topper wasn’t keen on the upper levels. What Topper enjoyed was dressage. And he proved it handsomely at the recent young rider championships, finishing second with a individual silver medal for Canada.

Going for the GOLD!
It was Topper’s hesitancy to move up the levels that initially brought David to Missy Ransehousen and Blue Hill Farm for coaching. Once there, it was agreed that Topper was much happier on the dressage court than the cross country course, so David began looking for another mount to bring along as he continued to pursue his goal of riding for Canada on the eventing team in the NAJYRC. And it wasn’t long before Missy’s experienced eventer, Critical Decision, caught his attention. The match worked. It worked very, very well, and David just took home the individual gold for Canada!
Beautiful job, David.
And now David has joined our team in endorsing APF Pro. We couldn’t be more delighted.
