The advanced division of the American Eventing Championships turned out to be a slugfest between the top five horses, with scores so tightly bunched that a single rail each in stadium decided the day for the three of the top four finishers.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A RAIL MAKES
Matt Brown on his super steady Super Socks BCF was in excellent position going into stadium, sitting behind the leader, Laine Ashker, by only 7/10ths of a point. But stadium proved a challenge for virtually all the top competitors, with each horse and rider combination dropping a single rail in their round except for Buck Davidson and his mare, Petite Flower. The pair’s faultless round moved them up from 4th to 1st.
